Day 5

On the fifth day here we switched host families. To get to know our new host we had a scavenger hunt around the city of Zabierzow. During the hunt our host led us to the stations while we participated in the activity at the station. For example, we had to find a candle in the bushes outside a cemetery, once we found it we took it to a grave stone and lit the candle in their memory. Here are some pictures of the cemetery.

Here are some other pictures from the hunt

After the hunt we went to our host's house and ate dinner and unpacked our bags. Our host had a friend over and we watched a movie until bed time.

Day 4

For our fourth day here we visited an Aviation museum. We saw some of the first planes that were used in World War I and II. Here are some pictures of the museum.

We were surprised when our host family bought us a ride on a gyro flight simulator in the museum

After the museum we went back downtown for dinner(like your lunch, this is the big meal of the day) and to look for souvenirs to bring back home. By this time it was the end of the day so we headed back to the host families house.

Day 3

On the third day here, we went to a very nice pool with attractions much like Kahneeta or the Great Wolf Lodge called Terma Bania. It is located in the mountains, people can go there for both swimming and skiing/snowboarding.

Later that night there was a festival in Krakow with an amazing firework and light show

Day 2

On our second day here we toured around the city of Krakow. Krakow is a city based off of a medieval town with walls for defense around he outside and the village in the middle.

The Krakow town square, is one of the biggest squares in Europe

After visiting the square we went to visit the first University in Krakow

We then walked up a road to the castle

Here are some more pictures of Krakow

Day 1

Hey, this is Jeffrey and Jordan just doing a quick check in after a long flight. We flew from PDX (Portland international airport) to Chicago O'Hare International airport, then to Frankfurt in Germany then finally we arrived here in Poland at the airport in Krakow. We were met by our host Arek and his family and went to their home in a town outside of Zabierzow. We met the whole family including the grandparents. We had a dinner of potatoes, broccoli, a soup of which I am not familiar and a type of meat that reminded at least me (Jeffrey) of corn beef hash. After that we decided to go outside and kick around a soccer ball and also use it as a make shift basketball. Overall today has been fun other than traveling for about 20 hours.

Trip Overview

Camas Middle Schools are gearing up to send students to Poland this summer through our Sister City Exchange Program.

The Sister City Exchange Program has been active in Camas for over 30 years! We have a rich cultural relationship with our Sister Cities in both Japan and more recently Poland. This year, we are excited to take 10-12 students, along with district and parent chaperones, to the southern part of Poland near Krakow. This 10 day exchange will provide a rich educational and cultural experience that will not only build positive relationships, but provide a life changing experience for our participating middle school students.

The tentative dates for this year’s exchange are June 18th through June 28.  Information regarding trip expenses, travel details and our agenda will be discussed at our February 6th  meeting.

We look forward to providing this amazing experience for our students and sharing more about this rich experience!
